چکیده

This paper aims to correct standard measures of agglomeration economies to account for air pollution generated by commuting. This paper examines the impact of nitrogen oxide (NOX) a pollutant mainly released by transportation on worker productivity. Literature on agglomeration economies highlights the positive role of employment density on productivity, without accounting for the environmental impact of a better accessibility. First, standard estimates of agglomeration economies for the 304 French employment areas are in line with the literature. Then, we introduce NOX emissions, which reveals that emissions reduce the expected agglomeration gains by more than 13%, confirming that air pollution matters.

Application of acoustic agglomeration to enhance air filtration efficiency in air-conditioning and mechanical ventilation (ACMV) systems

The recent episodes of haze in Southeast Asia have caused some of the worst regional atmospheric pollution ever recorded in history. In order to control the levels of airborne fine particulate matters (PM) indoors, filtration systems providing high PM capturing efficiency are often sought, which inadvertently also results in high airflow resistance (or pressure drop) that increases the energy c...

Epiphytic Lichens: Their Usefulness as Bio-indicators of Air Pollution

Lichens are used as effective monitors to detect low-level air pollution which may affect different flora and fauna communities. Epiphytic lichens have been widely recognized as effective eco-friendly bio-monitors for detection of metal deposition on trees, rocks and bare ground. This article is concerned with the use of lichens in bio-monitoring of air pollution, how the lichens do recognize a...

The Short and Long Run Causality between Agglomeration and Productivity

This study is to investigate the short- and long-run causal relationship between agglomeration (localization and urbanization) economies and labor productivity in the manufacturing sector of 28 Iranian provinces over an 11-year period, 2001–2011. Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS) method was used to estimate our long-run panel data model. The empirical findings suggested that localiz...

Forecasting of High-level Air Pollution in Urban-industrial Agglomeration by Means of Numerical Weather Forecasting

The purpose of the work was performing Air Quality (AQ) forecast model. The idea has made a prediction of AQ in urban-industrial agglomeration basing on weather forecasts. Mezoscale meteorological forecasting UM model (Unified Model) developed by the UKMO, artificial neural networks and regression method was used. Two-step approaches were used to AQ forecasting. The first step was based on clas...
